Viral Load & CD4
Viral load and CD4 count are the two most often used tools for the evaluation of HIV and patient status. Because of the relative simplicity and availability of these tests they can be performed often to keep a close eye on the virus and the effect of therapy. However, while changes in viral load and CD4 count can be warning signs, alone they will not identify the source of the problem. Viral load and CD4 count will remain indispensable in the management of HIV, but without resistance testing and RC, the value of these tests decreases.
